“Shiraoi Ioru Office Chikisani” is a hub disseminating Ainu culture. In May 2024, they are holding some workshops that help participants experience Ainu culture as below:  

1. “Ainu Embroidery Experiencing Workshop”
Free to join
Date and time: 10:00-16:00 on May 11th (Sat) and 12th (Sun) , 2024                         

The work will be completed in two days.
Target: General
Venue: Iol Office Chikisani
                2-6-4 Suehirocho, Shiraoi-cho, Hokkaido
Content: Under the guidance of the Ainu pattern embroidery club “Non’s Club”, you will learn Ainu pattern embroidery techniques and create beautiful works.
What to bring: Sewing tools
Capacity: 10 people (in case there are many people, there will be a lottery)
Application deadline: May 1st, 2024 (Wed)

2. Mountain Iol “Outdoor Learning”
Participation fee: 100 yen (food cost)
Date and time:  10:00-13:00 on May 18th, 2024 (Sat)

Target: Elementary school students and above, general public (elementary school students must be accompanied by a guardian)
Venue: Morino area (across from Horokenashi Parking Park)
Contents: In addition to viewing and tasting plants that are closely related to Ainu culture, you will also learn about the food culture and agriculture of the Ainu people through sowing millet seeds.
What to bring: boots, hat, work gloves
Capacity: 15 people (in case there are too many people, there will be a lottery)
