A good way to dip yourself into the local culture while travelling is going to the local festival.
Shiraoi is famous for being home to Ainu culture, the indigenous people in Japan.
The theme of the festival this July is to celebrate the opening anniversary of Upopoy!
The major activities will be related to Ainu culture such as playing Mukkuri contests, resolving quizzes about the Ainu culture, making Tamasai (Ainu necklaces) and mukkuri.
Besides that, visitors will enjoy stage programs and local gourmet food at the venue.
