[About the event]
Shiraoi is bestowed with an abundance of seafood. If you go to Super Kumagai, you’ll see an array of seasonal fish. Autumn is the season for salmon and pollock. The history of the town has been supported by the development of the fishing industry. And the indigenous Ainu in Shiraoi also lived on fishing.
An interesting thing is that far in western Siberia, fish is also a food culture that is common to the way of life of the indigenous peoples there.
This event will be a talk, exhibition, and workshop on the theme of “Living with Fish.” This event is held with the cooperation of Shiraoi’s Grandma and the Fisheries Cooperative Association.
