Sendai Clan, Shiraoi Manor House Museum
With the southward advancement of Russian forces in year 3 of the Ansei period, came the Sendai clan and the Ouetsureppan guard, who were sent by the Tokugawa shogunate to patrol and guard the Yezo region. Their jurisdiction covered an area from Shiraoi to the Kunashir and Iturup Islands. Outposts were placed in each region; the Shiraoi manor served as the central hub for such outposts.
It has been become a Hokkaido Heritage since 2022 October 13th.
